Upgrade from Intrepid Ibex on office PC

Yesterday I needed to install a package on my older Ubuntu (08.10 I think it was) just to notice that no packages were available anywhere for that release apparently... wow, time to upgrade I guess... so I went out for the proposed upgrade to 09.04 which, I know, is also outdated by now but it's easier to upgrade than to reinstall so let it be...

Everything went fine, I just had to fiddle a little bit with gstreamer-properties and pavucontrol after the upgrade, in order to get my sound system working back again.

I had to retire the Targa external drive, seems to be dead (wont come online and makes some strange sounds just after power on, then goes quiet dead apparently). I guess the HDA has died. So I setup a new backup partition on the Iomega for the other PC to store its backup data, and made a new full rsync backup.
